relationship with the internet
My relationship with the internet is very complicated, I have times where I am constantly on it but its mainly for school related purposes so I can write papers that require me to cite sources that I used from the internet. Other times I can be away from the internet for days because I am not one of those people that is addicted to the internet and is constantly on it. I actually like to go outside and go camping away from technology for a few days or put my phone down for a couple hours and play with my cousins outside. I like the internet and I think it has helped many people out in many situations and is beneficial to most anyone who has access and can correctly use the internet.

News: real or meaningless
The article that I think is "real" news is the story about the terrorists and how they actually got in the United States. The reporters had a little section specifically dedicated to the story and they even went into detail about the places where they were living and how they managed to get into the U.S. even after being involved with multiple bombings. They even went to the bomb housing warehouse and found bombs that had the terrorists fingerprints on them and they were cross referencing all finger printed bombs with the fingerprints of other refugees that happened to make it into the United States.
The article that was "meaningless" was the one about same sex being legalized in Illinois because they just said a quick tid-bit about it and moved right on to the next article on the agenda. They had a map of the U.S. and had the states raised where same sex is legal but they never went into the field and interviewed anyone in Illinois about how they all felt about it being legalized.

Generations
The generation I am in is called the Millenials and it includes the children born in the 90's and the 2000's. One event that I think could link us as a generation could be the terrorist attacks on the world trade centers on 9/11 because often a generation is defined by a disaster. I can remember sitting in first grade when the news came on the classroom television and all of us watched on horror as the second plane hit the second tower and that event stayed with us for years and years and many of us are now even fighting in the war that was created because of the attacks.

intertexuality and bootleg culture
in my own words I think of intertextuality as the relationship between two or more texts. So if you told the story of Moby Dick but then you threw in some details from Cinderella and all the mash ups that dj's do that we read about. The dj's do work with the songs but they defiantly don't do as much as the artists actually do.

the hit movie pitch perfect had plenty of mash ups from artists like David Guetta and Simple Minds and Jesse Jay and B.O.B all in the last dance number itself.

Midterm Post
Popular culture has many different themes. Themes such as time can change and it can also leave things the way they are like in the Marlboro reading where the Marlboro man had changed over time and the way the portrayed him did too but what the Marlboro man was trying to sell was the same through out the years and the comparing and contrasting between soccer and baseball.
The baseball and football discussion is one of the ones that I payed most attention to because I love sports and I could actually stay focused on it and grasp the concepts that some sports create feelings of war and anger such as football where as the others are all about getting out safe and alive like baseball.

Masculinity and Violenece
We encourage masculinity in our culture into almost everything like "real men aren't supposed to cry" and "just walk it off, you're fine." People say that violence is very important when it comes to the violence in men and boys but I personally don't believe it. Its all about how people are raised and the environment that they grew up in, its almost like pit-bulls and how they are raised and their environment as well.
The APA or American Psychological Association is concerned about the mental health of the boys in our society and the future repercussions that the violent video games will have on the boys who play them. The ACLU is all concerned about the constitution and what the bill of rights says, they are trying to get a bill passed directly through the government and bypass the agencies.

Football High
Football High was a documentary that we watched in class about a private football program that rose to a sort of fame with sponsors and big name high school athletes. The documentary was mainly focused on the impact of injuries and concussions on high school players of these bigger caliber teams later in life because of the material found in a 21 year-old deceased college football players brain after he committed suicide.
Issues brought up by the documentary was the need for athletic trainers and maybe even doctors on the team and they brought that point up with the two football players that had heat stroke and they were both treated differently because the knowledge of the trainers and coaches were very different. Another issue was the multiple concussions that weren't nearly as big as the diagnosed ones but were defiantly causing certain issues with players later in life and they brought this up with the player who committed suicide in college and had never been diagnosed with a concussion but had signs of multiple smaller impact concussions and the running back from Shiloh that they kept out of the game for a half after being diagnosed with a concussion but then put right back in after half time because it was a big game and it was close.
I think that the documentary asks us as viewers to think is the impact of the games that we force our children to play worth the short excitement of winning a couple games versus the repercussions of the fast paced and hard hitting game we know as football.

Women Advertising
In this add the women seems helpless without the man because she is clutching his leg on her knees and pretty much begging. Kilborn would objectify to this add because the women looks helpless and is curled up in a defenseless position. She is also not wearing any shoes which in my mind makes me think that the advertising team made it that was so that the man would seem more powerful while wearing shoes and that he is special enough to need shoes while the woman doesn't need any.

Sexiness
Sexiness in our culture is ridiculous. Every man wants a ten when only the ones with money can realistically get them. Sexiness is what you make it and the "average Joes" of our society think sexiness is big boobs and a big butt with a small waist when really some people think that being really smart is sexy or maybe a little on the heavier side.
Like Klosterman says about Marilyn Monroe it isn't that she did all this sexual stuff for the camera or press its that she did it with men of stature and class like a president or the ideal ball player of their time. Sex appeal is different as well, the times have changed and many men do like the Barbie doll look and others don't mind what their female looks like.

happiness and popular culture
In popular culture we have classified that there are two types of happiness, synthetic and natural. Synthetic happiness is when we make do with what we have to remind us that we can be happy with what we have in our lives already. Natural happiness is when we actually get what we wanted like on Christmas morning as a young child and having the biggest smile on your face.
Our society is hung up on the thought that popular culture items such as television or a super cool smartphone will some how be connected to our happiness. But in reality we really don't need any of those pop culture items to be happy when in my mind all you really need are the ones you love and time.
