Football High

Football High was a documentary that we watched in class about a private football program that rose to a sort of fame with sponsors and big name high school athletes. The documentary was mainly focused on the impact of injuries and concussions on high school players of these bigger caliber teams later in life because of the material found in a 21 year-old deceased college football players brain after he committed suicide.

Issues brought up by the documentary was the need for athletic trainers and maybe even doctors on the team and they brought that point up with the two football players that had heat stroke and they were both treated differently because the knowledge of the trainers and coaches were very different. Another issue was the multiple concussions that weren't nearly as big as the diagnosed ones but were defiantly causing certain issues with players later in life and they brought this up with the player who committed suicide in college and had never been diagnosed with a concussion but had signs of multiple smaller impact concussions and the running back from Shiloh that they kept out of the game for a half after being diagnosed with a concussion but then put right back in after half time because it was a big game and it was close.

I think that the documentary asks us as viewers to think is the impact of the games that we force our children to play worth the short excitement of winning a couple games versus the repercussions of the fast paced and hard hitting game we know as football.
